Riddles in the Dark : The Lost Version
I’ve read Tolkien’s original 1937 version of the “Riddles in the Dark” chapter, in John Rateliff’s History of the Hobbit, but I’ve never till now seen the two versions side by side with the differences highlighted like this. This is a really interesting treat for Tolkien fans. Check it out!
So, am I the only one who thinks that this bears a striking resemblance to the story Bilbo allegedly told the Dwarves and Gandalf about how he got the Ring as opposed to the “true” story of how it happened? Just saying.
Because, seriously, that just makes Tolkien awesome for putting that in his story anyway sort of.
